A Woman's Voice

The purpose of A Woman’s Voice is to provide a platform for women’s issues and interests through a feminist sense. The focus will be to provide resources, support, and empowerment through an open and safe atmosphere for all issues relating to women. Emphasis will be placed on education through literature; self-awareness and advocacy; and personal and professional growth while bridging the generation gap. We will focus our efforts on discovering the meaning of womanhood for each person and incorporating this understanding into our everyday lives.

The African-American Student Alliance is a collegiate support group created to provide the Kennesaw State University community with educational and social programming which promotes cultural diversity. The organization achieves its goal through the selection and presentation of renowned lecturers, performers and through artistic and relevant presentations. Activities take place throughout the academic year and involve campus-wide participation. AASA works with other campus committees and organizations in implementing its programming. All students enrolled at Kennesaw State University are eligible for membership in the organization.

Air Force ROTC

Kennesaw State University students may participate in the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps through the ARCHE cross-registration program. It involves an elective curriculum taken alongside required college classes. Students participating in the program will attend Air Force ROTC classes and training taught weekly at the Georgia Institute of Technology on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Alpha Kappa Delta – Mu

Alpha Kappa Delta strives to promote the study of social issues and serve humankind, while at the same time providing an extracurricular outlet for students interested in the study of sociology. Must be an officially declared sociology major or demonstrate a serious interest in sociology within an official program at Kennesaw State University. Must be at least a junior (third year) by the standards of Kennesaw State University. Must have accumulated the equivalent of an overall g.p.a. of 3.0 and rank in the top 35% of their class in general scholarship. Must have maintained the equivalent of a 3.0 g.p.a. in sociology courses taken at Kennesaw State University prior to initiation. Must have completed at least four regular courses in sociology prior to initiation.

The KSU Ambassadors are considered to be Kennesaw State University’s student public relations team. Beta Beta Beta (TriBeta) is an honor and professional society for students of the biological sciences. Founded in 1922 at Oklahoma City University by Frank G. Brooks, TriBeta now has over 370 chapters in colleges and universities across the United States. The Tau Epsilon chapter of TriBeta was established at Kennesaw College in 1988. Since then, members have participated in a variety of activities. These have included: sponsoring seminar speakers, sponsoring the District Science Fair for high school students, student mentoring, camping trips, Whitewater rafting, river and beach cleanups, and District TriBeta meetings.

Global Society is the umbrella organization on campus sponsoring simulation teams including Model United Nations, Model Arab League, and Model Organization of African Unity. Italian Club

The Italian Club’s main purpose is to provide, promote, and create an environment in which the students may discuss, explore, and reflect upon the Italian culture, language, and society. The Italian Club invites all interested students to activities, ranging from the arts, folklore, literature, language, history, politics, cuisine, and overall culture of Italy. Kappa Delta Pi is the premier Education Honor Society dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. The Tau Sigma Chapter at KSU was founded in 1994 and in 1999 our “Reading is Fun” program was commended by a resolution passed by the Georgia Assembly. Membership in KDP at the undergraduate level requires admission to the Bagwell College of Education and an accumulative 3.5 GPA; graduate students must have an accumulative 3.25 GPA.

Kennesaw Activities Board

KAB is the programming body for the KSU student population. Through its programming areas, the Kennesaw Activities Board sponsors a wide variety of out-of-class events, activities, and programs. The Kennesaw Activities Board enhances the overall student life on campus by providing the following types of programs: comedy, films, lectures, music, outdoor activities, variety performers, Homecoming, and KSU Day. The Kennesaw Activities Board office is located in room 375 of the Student Center and the phone number is 7/423-6279. KAB general meetings are held weekly and you are invited to attend and become involved. Executive officers are elected each spring for the following year. The elected officers appoint coordinator positions. To be eligible to coordinate an area or serve as an executive officer, a student must be enrolled at KSU, have a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA, and be an active member of the Kennesaw Activities Board. Upon enrollment you are a member of the Kennesaw Activities Board.

National Association of Black Accountants

In December 1969, nine African-Americans met in New York City to discuss the unique challenges and limited opportunities they faced in the accounting profession. In that year, there were only 136 African-American Certified Public Accountants (CPA’s) out of a total of 100,000 in the United States. Today, through the efforts of NABA and other interested groups, there are now over 200,000 African-Americans participating in the field of accounting, of which over 5,000 are CPAs. As a leader in the business community, NABA continues to create opportunities for the purpose of enlarging the pipeline of African-Americans into every level of accounting and finance. We are the first NABA chapter at Kennesaw State University.

The primary purposes of Phi Kappa Phi are to promote the pursuit of excellence in all fields of higher education and to recognize outstanding achievement by students, faculty, and others. Student Media

Student media offer students opportunities to develop talents in several areas, to gain an in-depth knowledge of University activities and to learn skills that will be useful long after the University years are over. The University has five student media: The Sentinel, Talon and Share and the New Media Group. The Sentinel, the weekly newspaper, covers campus news and student opinion. Students work as editors, writers, columnists, advertising representatives, production assistants, and photographers as well as other positions. You may read it on-line at www.ksusentinel.com. Talon is KSUs feature magazine, a slick full color publication published two to three times a year. Share, the Universityís literary and art magazine, provides a publishing outlet for the creative talents of KSU students, faculty and staff. Share welcomes contributions of art, photographs, poetry and short stories from all students, faculty and staff of the University. You may also submit on-line at ksushare.com. OWL Radio is now broadcasting and accepting applications. The New Media Group is involved with the future of media, communications, and the Web. You are invited to become a part of the operation of any of the student media. Previous experience is helpful, but not required. Any KSU student is eligible for membership. There are no dues; in fact, all positions receive some payment (you must have at least a 2.0 GPA in order to receive a stipend). All student media offices are on the second floor of the Student Center, room 277. If you are interested in working with a publication, contact the Assistant Director of the Department of Student Life at 7/423-6280 or complete an on-line media application.

The KSU-SNA is a constituent of the National Student Nurses Association and the Georgia Association of Nursing Students. The purpose of the KSU-SNA is to contribute to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality of health care, sponsor programs of fundamental interest and concern to nursing students, and aid in the development of the whole person within her/his professional role and responsibilities.

The KSU Student Reading Council is affiliated with IRA (International Reading Association) and GRA (Georgia Reading Association). The mission of this group will be to promote a love of reading, present effective reading strategies and reading research as well as promote collaboration among area educators and KSU. The student veterans club is a veterans group for all services members past, present, and future and any other student that wishes to show support for our military. The focus of the group is to provide members with peer-to-peer networks for veterans. We coordinate campus activities, provide pre-professional networking, keep members informed in current and up-coming VA benefits, and generally provide a touchstone for student veterans in higher education.

Students in Free Enterprise is an organization that teaches free enterprise in order to better individuals, communities, and countries. Students accomplish this through team outreach projects where they involve the community in the free enterprise system. Students have the opportunity to teach others what they have learned. SIFE’s learning philosophy is, “Tell me and I will forget, show me and I might remember, involve me and I will understand.” The planning and implementation of successful SIFE programs gives SIFE students ‘hands-on” experience in team building, communication, marketing, management, and public affairs. SIFE gives students the edge they need to be competitive in the market place.

The purpose of the KSU Chapter for UNICEF is to educate the students, faculty, and staff about the problems of children in developing countries.
